Receive whatever kind of restoration your body, mind or soul is in need of, as you surrender to the nurturing stillness and quiet of Restorative Yoga.

The focus of this gentle practice is to create a foundation of mental, emotional and physical relaxation that resonates into all aspects of your life. Through supported poses, breath awareness and simple meditation techniques, we'll restore health and vitality to the body and mind. From this still place, the body is more able to access its natural ability to cleanse, heal, rest, sleep, grow, conceive and build immunities.

This workshop is open to yogis of all backgrounds, levels, sizes and ages. No yoga experience is necessary, just come with the willingness to be still and present with yourself. The deep surrender cultivated here is incredibly useful for women preparing to release into the intensity, mystery and power of giving birth, thus pregnant women (who already have an established yoga practice) are encouraged to attend. New parents, people with chronic illnesses, headaches, and discomfort, as well as people that tend to nurture everyone but themselves are also welcomed.

Participants are invited to contact Britt directly with specific questions, requests or concerns at: britt@brittfohrman.com

Relax Deeply into 2008: A New Year's Day Restorative Practice

January 1, 2008, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Yoga Tree Valencia, 1234 Valencia @ 23rd St. 415-647-9707

Register online at: www.yogatreesf.com $25

Please register early as space is limited!

Greet the New Year from a grounded, rested place as you release into this deliciously peaceful and rejuvenating practice. Let go of lofty New Year's resolutions and celebrate the richness of where you presently are within the nurturing stillness of Restorative Yoga. The focus of this practice is to create a foundation of mental, emotional and physical support for the year ahead.

We'll explore various supported poses to cleanse the organs, strengthen the immune system, soothe the nerves, invigorate the body, quiet the mind and celebrate the spirit. While the body rests comfortably, we'll weave in simple breathing techniques, lovingkindness and mindfullness meditations that we can draw on for clarity, presence and strength throughout the coming year.

For those that are unfamiliar with Restorative Yoga, it is a practice born from the Iyengar tradition that utilizes a variety of props to support the body in gentle, restful positions. Poses are held for 5-30 minutes or as long as the practitoner is comfortable. The aim of the practice is to create a deep state of physiological relaxation, in which one can breathe, heal and rest deeply. Studies have found that 20 minutes in a Restorative pose can be as restful as 2 hours of sleep!

This training will prepare you to work with women in all stages of life, though we will focus on refining the art of teaching Prenatal Yoga. Your thorough training will equip you to consciously guide women through pregnancy, birth, motherhood and beyond with a deep understanding of traditional wisdom, common medical and midwifery practices, alternative healing modalities, and birthing relaxation techniques, in addition to yoga asana and breathwork.

"If we hope to create
a non-violent world
where respect and kindness
replace fear and hatred

We must begin
with how we treat each other
at the beginning of life.

For that is where
our deepest patterns are set.

From these roots
grow fear and alienation
~or love and trust."

~Suzanne Arms
