CURRENT NEWSLETTER BIG NEWS! After years of talking about it, I'm finally getting moving on producing my own photography book on birth. This is a book that I hope will serve as an inspiration to women and men living within our fearful culture to see birth as the amazingly valuable, emotional, spiritual, transformative, empowering, enlightening, experience that it can be. Think of it as the visual version of Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. I'm envisioning the book as a medium size coffee table book with vibrant color & b/w photos of all kinds of birthing imagery, interspersed with quotes and inspiring tidbits about birth. From years of sharing my photos with moms and partners to-be, I have seen how just a few positive images of birth can completely change one woman's feelings, path and choices in regards to how she sets her intentions for her baby's birth. I'm presently editing photos, writing the introduction and preparing my proposal to pitch the project to publishers. Do you want to be a part of this groundbreaking project? Here are the ways you can help out: 1) Send me some of your writing about birth. Your whole birth story, a quote, statement, poem or even a haiku. Whatever you feel inspired to offer. Feel free to be creative and crass, whitty and honest, emotional, sentimental and outright gooey. The juicier the better. You can write about anything... your choices, internal experiences, sensations, body image, sexuality, relationships, emotions, wisdom to share with other moms, fantasies, anything! For the midwives and doulas, you can just write your general musings about birthing. 2) Tell me about a quote from someone else that you really like, some idea, concept or statistic that has inspired you (with the name to credi). I need quotes from authorities on birth as well as from partners, midwives and friends. 3) Share your publishing connections. I'd appreciate any referrals you have. I have a few already, but the more the better. This is your chance to help ensure that positive birth attitudes, practices and beliefs are perpetuated in our society! I'm so excited to finally be moving forward with this project. Keep checking back here to stay posted as I make progress. OTHER NEWS: I will have 4 of my photos printed in the pregnancy and childbirth edition of OUR BODIES, OURSELVES, which is due out this March. This is an exciting step in the right direction! |
