pre and post natal bodywork prenatal bodywork What better way to relax than with a prenatal massage? Regular bodywork sessions are a wonderful way for expecting mammas to unwind and take time out to practice the fine art of surrender. With all the preparation that you’re engaged in, massage is a welcome respite, where you can be nurtured, simply relax and receive. My bodywork style is a creative combination of Acupressure, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Tui-Na, Reiki, and Thai Massage, with each session tailored to your changing needs. I can do really deep, specific work with passive stretching, though I also enjoy giving gentle, relaxing, nurturing sessions. I use a moderate amount of light, non-greasy cream, on your skin, while you are supported on your side by a wonderfully firm foam bolster. It is also possible to receive a Shiatsu style massage fully clothed, if you prefer. The session finishes with you in a semi-reclining position supported by sturdy wedge while I massage your belly, neck and head. As well as relieving muscular aches, prenatal massage can aid in circulation and the reduction of swelling; soothe mental, emotional and physical stress; help you sleep better; alleviate sciatica and lower back pain and create an overall sense of well being within you and your baby. For women who are 38 weeks and beyond, I offer a special treatment that can help begin moving the energy down to invite your baby to begin their birthing journey. This massage is done with Clary Sage and Rose Geranium infused massage cream and incorporates acupressure and energy work specific to bringing on labor. Because natural methods such as massage and aromatherapy work with your body’s wisdom, this treatment will not make your baby come before she/he is ready (unlike Pitocin or other drugs/interventions). In the case of threatened induction, I recommend this massage in addition to seeing an acupuncturist and/or taking labor promoting herbs. In-home sessions are available for mammas on bed rest. Special
modifications will be made for mammas with specific medical concerns,
though bodywork is not a substitute for midwifery or medical care. Massage is also available for partners and friends. postnatal bodywork Restore your vitality after birth with postnatal bodywork. Bodywork is the perfect way to take time out for yourself after all the hard work of labor and birth and get your energy balanced as you adjust to your new role as a mother. The postpartum massage and is performed side lying if you're not yet comfortable laying face down. It can focus on easing upper backache, increasing milk supply, calming the nerves, improving sleep and helping you establish a self care ritual that can carry you through this challenging and miraculous transformation. You can receive postnatal bodywork at anytime after your birth. One hour in-home sessions are recommended for the first 2-3 weeks, so you can remain available to your baby. With the loving support of my mammas, I was voted Best Massage Therapist of the Bay Area in the San Francisco Bay Guardian's 2003 readers poll. |
