asian bodywork

I offer my own unique blend of holistic Asian bodywork and energywork including Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Acupressure, Reflexology, Tui-Na, Reiki, and Unwinding the Belly (based on Chei Nei Tsang, taoist abdominal massage).  Any bodywork session is not complete without the awareness of the energy that moves beneath the surface, thus energywork such as Reiki, is integrated into each session.  Through all of the above modalities, I pay attention to your whole being, addressing emotional, spiritual and physical issues.

I offer three main types of sessions, each can be adjusted to address your specific concerns.  In addition to each session, I offer at least 15 minutes of time to discuss other self care methods, specific yoga postures, and healthy lifestyle suggestions to compliment your bodywork or energy work session.  For more information on Prenatal and Postnatal massage, please click the link above.

Table shiatsu with Tui-Na (Chinese massage), acupressure, and reiki.  Many clients prefer to receive this work unclothed while I work through a soft, cotton sheet and occasionally use some mildly scented non-greasy herbal cream directly on the skin.  Others prefer the more traditional type of session which is done with the client wearing comfortable clothing.  No jeans, please.  In this session I can focus on any part of the body, but its especially good for neck and shoulder stiffness and injury.

My Thai Massage is anything but traditional.  Its a creative blend of what I learned from my teachers in Thailand, combined with Ashiastu (Barefoot Shiatsu), Zen Shiatsu and energy work.  The session is performed on a futon on the floor with you wearing comfortable clothing, similar to what you might wear to practice yoga.  Thai Massage is nicknamed “the lazy man’s yoga”, as it’s a combination of yoga-like stretches with deep Shiatsu style massage.  In this session I use my hands, elbows, feet and knees to twist, press and stretch your aches away.

Thai massage is especially wonderful for people who enjoy very deep work, though the pressure can be adjusted to anybody’s comfort level.  There are a lot of movements that help to create a sense of ease in the lower back and hips.  Yogis find that Thai sessions are a great compliment to their regular yoga practice.  Many people feel more energized after a Thai session than with any other type of massage and enjoy the grounding feeling of being on the floor.  Thai massage and shiatsu can be adapted for pregnancy.

My Acupressure sessions are based on the Jin Shin form of Acupressure.  Particular acupressure points are lightly held for a minute or more in specific sequences to bring the body’s energy into balance.  Acupressure can address almost anything, but is especially good for fertility issues, stress, allergies and creating deep relaxation.  Like many forms of bodywork, Acupressure strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.
